Update On Links

March 18, 2013 - I'm now using various file sites with varying success. With over 200 albums listed here, obviously I cannot upload everything at once. So if you're dying to hear something, please post a comment on that particular post and I will move it up in the priority queue. Enjoy!

Oh Lydia, Oh Lydia, That Encyclopidia ...

The third and final disc of this set. This time we have tracks from At The Circus, Go West, and The Big Store. Okay, admit it - how many people never heard of the latter two films? The Big Store story (imdb.com) is "A detective is hired to protect the life of a singer, who has recently inherited a department store, from the store's crooked manager." Starring as "Tommy" is Tony Martin, who conveniently contributes a couple of vocal offerings just in case someone went to the theater to see something other than the Marx Brothers. Though I can't imagine what would drive such a person to do so. At The Circus, of course, features Captain Spaulding extolling the virtues of one Miss Lydia. Enjoy. +

I'd really like to have all three of these Marx Brothers discs re-upped.

Chester-have I told you lately that you're the best?

Oh, a bit of trivia on Go West. If you've ever seen the lobby cards for this film, you'll see a 25 year old Groucho with 50-ish Chico and Harpo. How can this be? The yount Groucho is writer Irving Brecher who bore a great resemblence to Julius Marx. He didn't feel like going going to the photo shoot, and Brecher filled in for him.

Done, done and done (albeit, the last thing of the day).

I didn't know that about the lobby cards, now I'll have to look for them online tomorrow.

Many thanks again, Chester. I'm sharing the page link with a friend of mine who is the biggest move fan I know. I'll have to ask what his lifetime count is, but I figure by now it is over 30K.

You're welcome. I used to collect movie memorabilia, but sold most of it to cover moving costs. The only things I kept are various photo stills (I managed to get a couple autographs), and an original Wheeler & Woolsey lobby card for The Nitwits.

The Marx brothers films were quite chaotic, and really, so is the music in isolation. In at the circus, the goofy presence of Kenny Baker really makes one miss Zeppo or Alan Johnes. (I saw most of the films on TV as a child and again in my twenties on a full screen when my city briefly had a revival house. I even saw Keaton's The General with live piano accompaniment. Also, I saw Plan 9 from Outer Space on a big screen. Low budget and cutting corners everywhere on that movie!)

My movie memorabilia is mostly biographies of comedians. I do have an autographed copy of vol 1 of The Funny Men by Steve Allen.
